Sam Irl is a Vienna based producer, DJ, mixing and mastering engineer from Lower Bavaria, Germany with roots in the USA.
He has been releasing music since 2006 on labels such as Jimpster’s Freerange, Jazz & Milk, Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood, International Major Label, Sampling As An Art, Frank Music and many others.

His diverse musical background in jazz piano and record digging is an important influence on his productions as well as his live & DJ sets, which blend sample-based MPC grooves, jazz harmonies, analog synthesizers and dub elements.  

Sam Irl’s tracks are regularly played on radio and in DJ sets by the likes of Gilles Peterson, Mr. Scruff, Lefto, Jazzanova’s Alex Barck, Jimpster, Session Victim, to name a few.

In the studio, Sam is known for his extensive use of high quality hardware equipment, a range of vintage gear such as Studer and Otari tape machines, compressors, tape delays, spring reverbs as well as the latest software to create an organic, warm and modern sound for each project.
In 2015 he earned his master’s degree as a Diplom-Tonmeister (sound engineer) at the prestigious University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna.

As a (co-)producer, mixing and mastering engineer, Sam frequently works with artists and labels such as Tom Trago, Marco Kleebauer, Sharktank, Sophie Lindinger, My Ugly Clementine, Shake Stew, Angela Aux, DIVES, Ankathie Koi, Cari Cari, PRESSYES, Elis Noa, Neubau, Toy Tonics / Kryptox, Trikont, Wake Dream Records, Neuzeitliche Bodenbeläge, Conny Frischauf, Bureau B, Grämsn, Demuja, Ian Fisher, Feater, Lukas Klement, rossvanboss, LIV ALMA and many more.

In addition to his solo music, Sam releases records with Viennese techno pioneer and studio neighbor Patrick Pulsinger as “Pulsinger & Irl”, which focuses more on dub-heavy, analog house and techno. They have played live at Berghain / Panorama Bar, Sonar Festival, Sziget Festival, Ars Electronica, Golden Pudel Hamburg, Zukunft Zurich and other venues.

Other collaborations include “Midnight Embassy”, a dubbed out project with Angela Aux from Munich, as well as “Skymax” (with Finnish producer Stiletti-Ana and Austrian musician Feater) and “Mantra Mantra” (with Daniel Helmer). Also a long gone 7″ together with Dorian Concept in 2008.

He has produced remixes and dub mixes for Tosca (Richard Dorfmeister & Rupert Huber), B.Visible, Janefondas, ESCHES, Aloa Input, Yvonne Moriel, G.rizo, Nemoy, Inverse Cinematics and many more.
